Do you charge for estimates? What is your estimating process?

We do not charge for estimates - never have. Just call our office and schedule an appointment for your FREE bathroom or kitchen estimate.

After a brief phone conversation to determine the requirements for your project, we'll schedule a time to meet.

During the appointment, we'll discuss your needs, take measurements, determine materials, assess any personal safety issues, and review layout options. Then your estimate will be written, transcribed, and sent by email, fax, or presented in person.

Why do prices vary on the estimates I am getting from different companies?

There are many different factors to take into consideration when comparing estimates. First, make sure the estimates have the same scope of work and types of materials. For example, does one estimate feature tile while the other features Cultured Marble?

The amount of service provided by the contractor has an effect on the cost of your new bathroom or kitchen also.

If you want the contractor to handle all details of the project the price will probably be higher. If you want to "be your own contractor" and schedule, plan, and supervise the project, the cost will be less. But make sure you actually have the time and knowledge to manage your project.

Also consider if the contractor has a large showroom, which can translate to a large overhead. This will also increase your price. Finally, if the contractor has all proper forms of insurance the price will be slightly higher than a "pick-up contractor," who may be unlicensed, uninsured, and uses undocumented workers. Taking a chance with a pick-up contractor is usually not worth the risk.

How long will the project take to complete?

Since we only work one project at a time we never "pull off" to work on another project during your construction. We've been specializing in remodeling for over 30 years, we can finish promptly while working in fully furnished areas, spotlessly clean up daily, and keep your home just as livable as always.

Most bathroom remodeling jobs take 5 working days, however, the total number of days depends on the types of materials selected, i.e.; tile vs. smooth surface. See our detailed Bathroom Timeline for an overview.

Kitchen remodeling projects normally take 10 - 15 days depending on materials selected and city permit requirements. See our detailed Kitchen Timeline for an overview.

What should I do when construction is taking place?

We do not require you to stay home and supervise our construction. That is our job. All of the details for your project will be worked out before we remove even one item from your home.

Some folks like to watch us create their new bathroom or kitchen, and in that case we ask you to wear protective goggles and a face mask at certain stages of construction; however this can impede our progress.

We are always happy to stop for a few minutes and invite you in for a peek and explain what we have done so far.

Will we be required to move out of our home while construction is taking place?

Very rarely however it depends on how extensive the project is. If you only have one bathroom and one toilet, we will reset the toilet at the end of each day.

Water and electrical will also be turned on at the end of each day. We make every effort to keep a comfortable atmosphere, covering sleeping areas when necessary.

If you order a granite slab that needs to be fabricated for kitchen counters, we will install temporary countertops, a working sink, and a toaster oven so you can use the kitchen while the fabrication takes place.

We completely clean up the work area at the end of each work day and this makes all the difference in the world.

What is your service area?

We work most of Orange County, California. (See our service area map)

Who will be working in my home?

We are a family owned and operated company. My three sons and I do all of the work in your home. If other professionals (painter, shower door installer, etc.) are consulted, they will have a long association with us and work to the same high-quality level that we do.

I, or my sons, will be on your job every day attending to all details. We don't hire temporary or undocumented workers. All professionals are English speaking.

Does the entire job include electrical, plumbing, etc. or do I need to find separate contractors on my own?

We do everything except the final wall texturing, painting, and hanging the shower door. We will help you select these services before we begin your project. Then, we will coordinate these final services into your timeline. This can save you money on the overall cost of your project.

I want to replace my tub with a shower. Can you do that?

Absolutely. This is a very popular request, especially for older folks who don't feel safe stepping over and down into a tub. We have a lot of ideas that allow for options like bench seats and corner seats too.

What's the difference between smooth surface material and tile?

In two words: No grout. This means that your smooth-surface countertop or shower has no grout areas to harbor bacteria or dirt. Another benefit of smooth-surface is many color and pattern variations and reparability.

If you prefer tile for your project, we are very particular about installation methods. There is a right way to install tile, and a wrong way. The wrong way is more affordable, but temporary at best. For shower/tub areas, we install with double paper wire mesh, scratch coat, float, brown coat, and allow 20 hours of curing time. Then we apply thin set and tile. For tile flooring, we use hardy backer.

There are so many companies advertising affordable "rock bottom" pricing on cabinetry. How can thay?

It seems everybody in the remodeling business is selling pre-built cabinetry for unbelievably low prices. This is tempting! But beware.

Most of these cabinets are made in China and offered through companies unskilled in remodeling, such as flooring companies. The low-quality of the cabinetry can present many problems. There are some pre-built cabinets worthy of installation, but we have found that our custom cabinets are in the same price range of the higher-quality pre-builts. In truth, you get what you pay for.

Our custom-made cabinets are built locally in Orange County by skilled craftsmen. We have worked tirelessly to bring our customers the best quality at competitive prices, plus; we get it right the first time!

What about new flooring and paint?

Oftentimes, your existing flooring can be covered and protected, avoiding replacement altogether. If this is not an option, we have many flooring samples you can select from such as, top-of-the line full-sheet vinyl, tile, or stone.

We also have an experienced professional painter who will help you select paint colors. He will apply the finishing touch to your newly remodeled kitchen or bathroom.

Can you install products that I have already purchased?

This can be somewhat complicated. If you have purchased a product prior to contacting us, your items may not be the right size or configuration. But a more important factor to consider is the quality of products.

We recommend products that we know will not give you a problem. After 35 years of installing, we know what brands and models to stay away from. It is best to call us for a free estimate and consultation prior to any products being purchased.

Are you Licensed, Bonded, and Insured?

Yes, yes, and yes! Click here for our company profile.

Do you have references I can call?

Absolutely. We have a long list of current clients as well as clients from years ago. This way you can feel assured that the work we do is consistent and long-lasting. Please contact us for referrals or go to check out our testimonials page.

Do you have a showroom?

Yes. We have a small showroom located inside of A1 Shower Door Company. Our showroom displays cabinetry, wood and stain samples, counter top samples, fixtures, shower and tub installations, etc. You can also view our online photo galleries.

Why don't you maintain your own showroom?

Over 20 years ago, A-1 Shower Door asked us to install showers and tubs in their showroom to showcase their shower doors. We collaborated to use a portion of their store for our own showroom. This works great for everybody.

What type of return on investment can I expect from remodeling my bathroom or kitchen if I sell my home?

Realtor® Magazine reported that for the year 2008, the national average return on investment for bathroom remodeling was 74%, while national return on investment for kitchen remodeling was 79%.
